Build a website bot in Grok Bot
Grok Bot lets you create bots with their own job and instructions. Each bot works on a cloud computer with a browser and a terminal, so it can write the files for a website and put them online without your laptop. In this guide you set up one bot whose only job is your websites. It writes the pages, publishes them with Vinssi, sends you the link and keeps the site up to date.
We tried this ourselves. A Grok Bot assistant built an internal report dashboard for our team and published it on Vinssi Pages in minutes. When the numbers change, it publishes a new version to the same address.
What you need
- The Grok Bot app on your computer or phone.
- A Vinssi account. You can create it during the setup below. A workspace is created the first time you sign in.
- Nothing else. The bot runs the Vinssi command line tool on its own computer. The tool needs Node 20 or newer, and the bot can install it if it is missing.
1. Create the bot
- In Grok Bot, choose New in the sidebar, or press Cmd/Ctrl+N.
- Choose Create new Bot.
- Open the bot menu and choose Edit Profile.
- Name it, for example "Website Builder".
2. Paste the instructions
Paste this into the bot's description. The description holds the rules the bot should always follow. You can edit it later.
You build and maintain websites for me and publish them with Vinssi.
How you work:
- Keep every site in its own folder on your computer: ~/sites/<site-name>/. The folder has index.html at its root, plus any CSS, images and a short README.md that lists the Vinssi site id, the live link and what changed last.
- Write plain HTML and CSS unless I ask for something else. Pages must work on a phone, load fast and be easy to read. Use only text, prices and images I gave you or that I have approved. Never invent customer reviews, numbers or contact details.
- Publish with Vinssi Pages. Follow https://vinssi.ai/get-started.md?ref=tpl-grokbot. Run the CLI as vinssi, or as npx -y vinssi if it is not installed.
- Sign-in: if vinssi whoami says I am not signed in, run vinssi login in the background, show me the link and the short code it prints, and wait while I approve. Never run login in a loop.
- Always ask me before you publish or update a live site. Show me what changed first.
- The first publish creates the site. Save its site id in README.md and always update the same site with --site <siteId>, so the link stays the same.
- After every publish, check that the link returns 200 (a new site can return 404 for about ten seconds, so retry once), then send me the link.
- Anyone with the link can open the site. Never publish passwords, keys, customer data or internal figures. If something looks private, ask first.
- If I ask to undo a change, use vinssi pages rollback. The same text, with a few extra rules, is in our bot template.
3. Connect Vinssi
Send your new bot this message:
Sign me in to Vinssi. Instructions: vinssi.ai/get-started.md?ref=guide-grokbotThe bot runs vinssi login on its computer. The tool prints a short code and a link, and the bot shows them to you. Open the link on any device, sign in, check that the code matches and choose Allow. The code expires after ten minutes. The tool saves the sign-in on the bot's computer, so you only do this once. vinssi whoami shows who is signed in.
Good to know: all your Grok Bot bots share the same computer, so they can all use this Vinssi sign-in. To remove it, ask the bot to run vinssi logout.
4. Three prompts to copy
Paste one of these into the bot's chat and change the details in brackets.
A homepage for a small business
Make a homepage for my business. Name: [Bakery Anna]. What we do: [sourdough bread and cakes to order]. Opening hours: [Tue-Sat 8-16]. Address and phone: [...]. Tone: [warm and simple]. One page with a short intro, what we sell, opening hours, contact details and a map link. Show me a draft first, then publish it with Vinssi and send me the link. Keep the site in ~/sites/[bakery-anna] so you can update it later.Later, you can say "Change the opening hours to Tue-Sun 8-16 and publish the update." The bot edits the same folder and publishes to the same link.
An offer page for a client
Make an offer page for my client [Company Ltd]. The project: [a new website, 3 pages]. Price: [€2,400 excl. VAT], schedule: [4 weeks], what is included: [...], what is not included: [...]. One clear page with a summary at the top, the details, and my contact details at the bottom. Publish it with Vinssi and send me the link, so I can send it to the client. The address has a random part, so it cannot be guessed. Anyone you send it to can open it. Search engines are told not to list it.
A dashboard
Make a dashboard from this data: [attach a CSV or paste a table]. Show [monthly sales and the top 5 products] as simple charts with Chart.js, and a few key numbers at the top. Keep the data in a separate data.json file, so you can update it without touching the page. Publish it with Vinssi and send me the link.Use data you are fine with anyone who has the link seeing. Vinssi Pages has no password option.
Keep it updated with a routine
A routine tells a bot to do a job on a schedule. Ask the bot in its chat:
Every Monday at 9:00, check ~/sites/[bakery-anna] against this list: [opening hours, this week's special, holiday notices]. Prepare the changes, show me what changed and ask before you publish. If nothing needs to change, tell me that. The bot creates the routine and shows when it runs next. A new routine waits for its first scheduled time, so use Test if you want to try it right away. Routines run in the cloud while your laptop is closed.
When the site needs its own domain
Vinssi Pages is the quick way to get a link. Pages sites need no plan, but they tell search engines not to list them and they use a Vinssi address. If you want your business to show up in search results under your own domain, ask the bot to move the site into a GitHub repository and deploy it as a Vinssi app. An app needs a plan, from €5 a month per app, excluding VAT, and you can attach your own domain once the first deploy is live. New workspaces start with €9 of free credit. See prices.
These steps come from the Vinssi get started guide, the CLI guide, the Pages guide and the Grok Bot help pages. The publish step was run from a Grok Bot computer for our own dashboard. The prompts above were not run end to end for this guide.
Common questions
- Do I need to know how to code?
- No. You describe what you want, the bot writes the files and shows you a draft.
- Does it cost anything?
- Publishing with Vinssi Pages does not need a plan. An app deployed from GitHub needs a plan, from €5 a month per app, excluding VAT. Grok Bot has its own plans.
- Can it publish without asking me?
- Not with these instructions. The bot asks before every publish. Keep that rule in the description.
- Where does my site run?
- In Europe.
- Can I change the site myself?
- Yes. The files are in a normal folder on the bot's computer. Ask the bot to show you where they are, or to send you a copy.
