How to make your own website
A website in this guide is files a browser can open as they are. You write them as HTML and publish them with Vinssi Pages. Ask an AI helper, or run the same commands yourself. Pages does not need a plan.
What you are making
A small site: a home page, a short description, and a way to reach you that is written on the page. One HTML file is enough. A folder works when it has index.html at its root. Vinssi Pages publishes that file or folder and gives you a link. There is no repository and no build.
You need a Vinssi account. The first sign-in creates a workspace. Pages does not need a plan. New workspaces receive €9 of free credit. The credit is applied to invoices before a card is charged. An app deployed from GitHub needs a plan, from €5 a month per app, excluding VAT.
With an AI helper
Copy this prompt into Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, or another helper that can run commands:
Make me a simple website and publish it with Vinssi Pages. Instructions: vinssi.ai/get-started.md?ref=guide-own-websiteThe helper should follow get-started.md. For HTML, that guide uses Vinssi Pages. It asks you to sign in if the command is not signed in. Run each command as vinssi if it is installed. If it is not, run the same command as npx -y vinssi. The tool needs Node 20 or newer.
Without an AI helper
You can publish the site yourself. The Pages list in the dashboard shows sites after they are published. It does not upload files. Write the HTML in any editor, then use the command line.
- Write index.html, or a folder with index.html at its root.
- Run
npx -y vinssi login. Ifvinssiis installed, runvinssi login. Open the link, sign in, check that the code matches, and choose Allow. The code expires after ten minutes. - Publish the file or folder:
npx -y vinssi pages publish /absolute/path/to/folder --json--json prints siteId, versionId, url, bytes, and fileCount. Use the real path. A single .html file becomes the index page. Dotfiles and symbolic links are skipped.
Check the link
curl -s -o /dev/null -w "%{http_code}" <url>The result should be 200. A site that was just published can return 404 for about ten seconds. One retry after a short wait is enough. The address looks like https://<name>-<random>-<workspace>.pages.vinssi.ai. Anyone with the link can open the site. Vinssi asks search engines not to list it.
Publish only what you want to share. Leave out passwords, customer data, and private files.
Update the same link
Publish again with --site and the site id from the first publish. Visitors see either the old version or the new one. The same steps are in the Pages guide.
When you need an app
A server, an API, or a database uses a Vinssi App from GitHub and needs a plan. Prices start at €5 a month per app, excluding VAT. See prices. These steps come from get-started.md and the Pages guide. They were not run against a signed-in Vinssi account for this guide.

- Anyone with the link. Vinssi asks search engines not to list the page. The page is still public.
- How do I update the same link?
- Publish again with --site and the site id from the first publish. Visitors see either the old version or the new one.
